Admission

The pupil’s home address determines the admission area to which the pupil belongs and according to which the local school is assigned to them. It is not always possible to designate the geographically nearest school as the local school.
The guardian can request a local school from their admission area.However, first priority in the selection goes to pupils who have

• A medical or other special reason, such as using a wheelchair
  The guardians must submit an expert opinion on the matter to the school principal.
• Sibling reasons for those living at the same address
  If the guardians so wish, a sibling is assigned to the same local school where their big sister/brother is already a pupil, unless the older sibling is, at the time of the decision, in the highest grade of the school or already moved to another school from their local school that does not provide teaching for all 1–6 grades.

  For this, the guardian must enter the name of the older sibling already in the school on the application form.

The local school for pupils in Swedish-language basic education is Lahti Swedish-language school in pre-school and grades 1–6, and the Swedish-language upper grades 7–9 are located at the Tiirismaa comprehensive school.

In admission, it is ensured that the pupil can, if they wish, continue to study the foreign A2 language chosen as an elective subject in third grade in upper stage comprehensive school as well.

At the end of basic education, the guidance counsellor, in cooperation with the teachers, supports and guides the pupils in choosing future studies. With the support of guidance and their guardians, the pupil makes study and career decisions based on their own strengths, abilities and interests. Upper secondary education is applied to through joint application.

Joint application

Schools inform about joint application. The school’s guidance counsellor individually guides the pupil in making choices about further studies during a personal meeting. The guardian plays an important role when the pupil considers their upper secondary education options.

In the joint application, the pupil can apply for different options with one application form.
The joint application for general upper secondary education and vocational education is in the spring. The application is made on the national joint application site at Studyinfo.fi.
